Although Monica says that "my parents never denied me the fact that I was Jewish," her Jewish self-awareness growing up was certainly "very limited." After traveling to Israel for the first time on a Birthright trip, she returned to the States looking for a way to stay connected and to learn more about her heritage. RAJE was a perfect fit. "It was exactly what I needed. I never would have got there on my own." After a wonderful semester of learning at the RAJE Leadership Fellowship, she returned to Israel on a RAJE trip. "Doing RAJE made my life feel so much more complete. I know it's cheesy, but I felt more complete in my identity, knowing who I am and where I came from. RAJE gave me the opportunity to ask questions, challenge the answers, and never feel like I'm getting a biased answer."

After returning from her RAJE trip, Monica decided that she wanted to play a leadership role in her community. She went on to complete the RAJE Madrichim – advanced leadership program, and served her community: leading RAJE trips, organizing community events and mentoring new students coming into the program. "I live in NJ, so it is a long drive to Brooklyn, but whenever I can, I'm at RAJE or helping out remotely from NY, it's my community and I love it."

Her time at RAJE gave her the inspiration and the experience to turn her passion for the Jewish community into a full time job, recently securing a position in the Birthright corporate offices. Her job is a dream come true. "After becoming involved in RAJE, I knew I wanted to help the Jewish people, but I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to do it as a full time profession, I hope I can continue to help other Jews connect with Israel and the Jewish people, the same way that RAJE was there for me when I needed it most."
