PThe Torch of Freedom Award Sonya BekkermanSonya Bekkerman is a leading figure in the highly competitive world of Russian Art. After receiving her Master of Arts Degree from Williams College, she joined the prestigious team of art experts at Sotheby’s. In 2000, she was appointed as Vice President of the 19th Century European Art, where she began to spearhead highly successful art auctions and earned the trust and respect of art collectors and experts worldwide. In 2004 she helped found Sotheby’s International Russian Department, which has achieved extraordinary auction results, maintaining over $180 million in global sale totals during each of the past two years, and controlling more than 70% of the market share over leading competitors. Such record results, along with her expertise and market knowledge, have established Ms. Bekkerman as the undisputed leader for sales of Russian art.
